You could be her match...her lifeline...her future!
Sidney Leigh Markie was born on 07 - 17 - 07...
She was born beautiful, bright and full of life...
It took nine, long and agonizing weeks for some of the best doctors in the world to understand why shortly after birth, Sidney was so close to death and why some doctors were helpless to solve the mystery to save her life. Sidney was finally diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic disorder called Microvillus Inclusion Disease. Without a rare seven organ transplant Sidney would not have survived past her first years of life.
This precious "miracle baby" received her life saving transplant on March 4th, 2008. Two days post transplant Sidney underwent her second of many additional surgeries to remove one of her transplanted donor kidneys due to the significant amount of stress during the transplant process and surgery it endured. Sidney is currently listed for a subsequent kidney transplant while she remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Holtz Children's Hospital as neither of the donor kidneys she received is viable and the function of her remaining native kidney is limited. Sidney requires frequent blood transfusions. Because of certain antibodies, she can receive blood only from matched A Negative and O Negative donors. About 1 in 50
A - / O - donors will be a suitable match for Sidney. We are asking all previous donors with these blood types to come and donate for baby Sidney today.
With luck, you could be that 1 in 50.
If you are an A Negative or O Negative donor, please visit your nearest CBCSF branch location and donate for Sidney Markie. If you have another blood type, please help other patients in need by donating blood in Sidney's honor.
